72 Hours in New York City

Trip date: August 2019

Why New York City?

This trip was made possible because three long-time friends have not seen each other for 15 years. We’ve seen each other separately over the years, but just not all three of us together. Therefore, I proposed that two of us fly to NYC to see the third, and with kids (not mine) made it a trip for four.

We had three full days in NYC; however, two of those were basically reserved for hanging out and catching up. The third was a free day to roam around the city. I am here to share some of our recommendations with you.

Visit the Vessel at Hudson Yards

For tourists like myself, the main attraction at Hudson Yards is The Vessel, which is a structure of interconnecting flights of stairs that are on 8 or 9 stories. To visit, you need to reserve tickets in advance. While the tickets are free, they do go fast. I was able to get same-day tickets after scanning a QR code on site (tickets are distributed at 9:30am each day for same day reservations).

The inside of the Vessel was quite fun to walk around. I spent a lot of time just admiring the structure and walking up and down stairs to get a different perspective. I even came back in the evening for yet another perspective, and I would encourage those to visit to do so as well.

Walk The High Line

The Hudson Yards is at the top of The High Line which extends all the way to The Whitney Museum. Our original plan was to walk the entire length, but then the kids were so tired from the redeye flight they went to rest. I on the other hand was able to walk a small section of The High Line in the evening.

Fun fact: The original concept for The High Line was in Paris. The Coulée verte René-Dumont is near the Bastille. While it’s not as fancy as its counterpart in New York City, it’s still worth a visit.

See the Ain’t Too Proud Musical

The musical is about the life of the Temptations, and the music and storytelling was just awesome. I highly recommend it.

See the City

This one requires no additional explanation. Just enjoy the vibe of New York City.
