Getting to Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Air Saint Pierre

Below is a guide on how to get to Saint Pierre and Miquelon (SPM). The information is accurate as of August 2022. I will try to update the information as I find them.

Getting There

Generally there a few options:

  • Air: Air Saint-Pierre flies to SPM from a number of destinations in Canada. These include: St. John’s, Halifax, Montreal and the Magdalen Islands. During summer there is also a non-stop to Paris.
  • Ferry: SPM Ferries offers ferry service from Fortune, NL to Saint Pierre. The closest major city to Fortune is St. John’s, NL (not to be confused with St. John in New Brunswick OR St. John in the Caribbean). It takes between 3-4 hours by car from St. John’s to Fortune.

After the pandemic it’s almost impossible to rent a car. Even if you are able to rent one it’s insanely expensive. While the ferry was the cheaper option, the car situation forced me to purchase a ticket to fly into and out of SPM.

My itinerary was: St. John’s, NL (YYT) to Saint Pierre (FSP), then onto Halifax (YHZ) before heading home.
